Music Recommendation – Single – Rochelle Jordan ft. IamSu, Playa 4 Life

While the title of the song immediately turned me off, I was pleasantly surprised by the enjoyable tune that is Playa 4 Life. Rochelle Jordan sounds almost like Monica or Ashanti, and it is evident that she is definitely attempting at a RnB sound. So does she succeed?

The short answer to that question is yes, Rochelle’s Playa 4 Life captures the RnB mojo that I love. However, interesting details to consider based on this track are the following: That Rochelle had gone through a recent heartbreak, inspiring this song, and her upcoming album, 1021 (happy almost birthday by the way) is said to be deep and passionate with emotion. Perhaps this raw emotion is the reason that, despite the threatening name, the song is impressive and passionate.

Also, Bay-area rapper (not Chesapeake Bay, even though “Bay-area” should refer to Maryland since the Chesapeake is the largest bay in the country) IamSu raps a verse on here. I like it, though it seems a bit unrelated to Rochelle Jordan’s message in several lines (going from money to women to drinking to money again). It does get back on track at the end though.

So overall, I would rate the song at about 9/10. The vocals sound great, tuned well and executed passionately. IamSu’s verse leaves a little bit to be desired, especially because I have heard much better from him. You can listen to her sequel to her one-track mixtape Killah below:
